Early last Saturday morning, I touched base at Road Atlanta, in Atlanta, Georgia a few hours before the group to attempt and take in however much of the neighborhood auto culture as could be expected. There will be a different and devoted post to the autos I observed, however this one should be seen before I even consider doing whatever else.

I had seen it the day preceding, moving unobtrusively through the enclosure at a separation. It instantly struck me as a spotless, forceful FD3S Mazda RX-7, and one which I ought to search out at some phase throughout the end of the week. I simply hadn't anticipated that it would be one of the best FD3S that I have ever found face to face, when I inevitably thought that it was stopped close to Kyle Mohan's pit. The colossal group that appeared to always encompass it was demonstrative of the consideration that it merited.

At the heart of the build is a Pulse Performance Race Engineering (PPRE) 26B 4-rotor with a big single twin-scroll turbocharger. Twin screamer pipes from the external wastegates poke through the bonnet and ensure that there’s plenty of bite to the iconic rotary bark. With the Haltech engine management system module and accompanying digital display, the interior is a stripped and caged affair while still maintaining the car as street legal. Well, when I say street legal, I’ve seen videos of it on the street since, so I’m just assuming that part.

Sat on Work Meister S1s with fat Nitto tyres, it’s a purposeful looking car.

It’s also a car that I only wish I could have spent a full day with, shooting around the amazing Road Atlanta circuit. But it wasn’t to be. Dragging myself away from the Mazda, I figure it’s as much of an excuse that I’ll ever need to revisit Atlanta in the future.

Even when the i8 is not the important component in a landscape, it certainly knows how to attract attention!
