Twain Mark once said, "There is a charm about the forbidden fruit that makes it unspeakably desirable." And for select U.S. VeeDub fans, cars are more desirable than Volkswagen's Scirocco. It's everything we love about the Golf in a sleeker, more aggressively styled package. But to some who live in markets where the Scirocco is actually available, it's just another car.

Take the 2012 VW Scirocco you see here. Prior to owner Veerapat Phompruk acquiring the car, it belonged to his mom. So when moms told Veerapat that she wanted him to take over her daily runabout, he simply wasn't interested. Like many modern car guys, Veerapat had his heart set on acquiring a Nissan S chassis an S13, to be precise. Why drive mom's car when there are drift cars to be had? But after taking a spin in the mom-mobile, he immediately fell in love, declaring it the best FF machine out there. And then the real fun began.

This 2012 Scirocco is a stunning example of how select mods can make a huge impact. A Scirocco R front bumper, side skirts and rear bumper were added to give this runabout a clean OEM+ look. That front bumper was cut to make room for the Forge Motorsport intercooler, and further amplifying the style is a vented ForceTech carbon fiber hood and front grille, with an Osir wing mounted high in the rear. 19inch Works Gnosis wheels wrapped in Yokohama Advan AD08R tires sit at all four corners to help complete the performance-ready look.

The Scirocco's stock electronically controlled dampers were tossed for a set of BC Racing coilovers, plus a KW Cancellation Kit to keep the ECU from throwing error codes. An Ultra Racing strut bar sits under the hood for some added chassis stiffness. And helping slow it all down are custom 380 mm rotors squeezed by 6-pot Porsche Cayenne calipers.

Things are also awesome under the hood. The 2.0lt EA888 has been shown some love with a selection of parts that include an HKS titanium intake, K04 turbo kit, OEM Audi A8 red coil pack, and Flex Motorsport oil cooler. But wait, there's more. A custom titanium exhaust sends waste gasses through an Amuse R1 titanium muffler en route to the atmosphere. Revo Technik Stage 3 software helps manage it all, allowing this car to pull 371 horsepower on the dyno. A Sprint Booster brings sharpened throttle response and a lot more fun to Veerapat's daily commute.

The inside of this VW Scirocco is track ready thanks to its custom roll cage, OMP 6-point racing harnesses, Recaro Sportster racing seats and Defi meter set with ZD control unit. Being european car, we want to say that the right-hand drive configuration adds further street cred, but then we realize this is a German car in Thailand, so we'll just shut up before we embarrass ourselves further.

Thanks to the U.S.'s sucky importation laws, we have to wait until 2037 before we can (legally) drive a Scirocco like this. Maybe then we can convince Veerapat to trade his VW for our mom's car. We don't think that the 1992 Plymouth Grand Voyager was ever sold in Thailand, so maybe our American hunk of iron will be seen as exotic. Well, probably not, but we can dream. Until then, we'll wonder why we can't bring the Scirocco to our shores. After all, at least it isn't a diesel...
